Western Isles schools create short films

Sixteen films created in the Western Isles have been entered for this year’s Gaelic online media shorts competition FilmG.

A total of 71 films have been entered the MG ALBA competition – under the theme of ‘The Upper Hand – with films across every genre from arty and animated through comedy and calamity to serious and sombre.

Donald Campbell, chief executive of MG ALBA, said: “Congratulations to the many people who have participated in FlimG this year.

“We are proud of the new champions of Gaelic digital media that are emerging from communities across Scotland and hope that as many people as possible will enjoy viewing their stories and voting for their favourites.”

“Favourite film”

The 71 digital shorts entered have been received from all across Scotland, along with one from New York! Amongst the sixteen Western Isles entrants are nine individual film-makers, each of the island high schools and one Uist primary school.

This will be the second and third year of participation for some, while others are entering for the first time this year as the competition grows in popularity.

Going live last week, all 71 entries can now be viewed online on the FlimG website at www.filmg.co.uk, where everyone is invited to vote for their favourite film before the deadline on January 31, 2011.
