Northern Constabulary has expressed frustration at the rise in the number of drink drivers over Christmas.
At the end of the third week of the ACPOS-led festive drink drive campaign there were eight motorists caught over the limit.
This is compared with only six people drunk and behind the wheel during the same period last year.
Over half of those caught drink driving over the past week were detected following information received from concerned members of the public who noticed cars swerving all over the roads.
Northern Constabulary Roads Policing Inspector John Smith said: “Although we are still receiving calls from members of the public about possible drink drivers the message still doesn’t appear to be getting through to some people.
“It is disappointing to see a rise in the number of people caught compared to last year.”
