SNP councillor for Stornoway North, Gordon Murray has welcomed the news that Transocean will be making a community benefit payment of £60,000 that will be used to help youth groups attend mainland sporting events.
Cllr Murray commented:” it is a very generous payment and recognises the issue of financing sports travel for islanders.”
“The continued success in sports events present the challenge of travel expenses to groups and organisations who are run by volunteers. I would like to pay tribute to all the coaches and volunteers who work with our young in various sports and it is testament to their hard work and commitment that island sport is achieving such a high standard. “
