MSP TO SUPPORT DOGS TRUST AT FREE CHIPPING DAY

heb logoDogs Trust, the UK’s largest dog welfare charity, is set to welcome Dr Alasdair Allan MSP to two microchipping events in his local constituency, Na h-Eileanan an Iar, on Monday 4th and Tuesday 5th April.

The events will be held at the Bayhead Bridge Centre, Lamont Lane, Bayhead, taking place between 3pm and 7pm on Monday 4th April and between 9am and 1pm on Tuesday 5th April.

Both events will offer free microchips to local dogs while Dogs Trust representatives will also be on hand to promote responsible dog ownership and inform owners about the benefits of compulsory microchipping.

Dr Alasdair Allan MSP comments,

“I am very happy to be supporting this event and I would like to express my thanks to Dogs Trust for coming up and offering this service completely free of charge.

“Microchipping is a simple procedure that enables dogs to be swiftly reunited with their owners in the event they get lost. It is important that dog owners get their pets chipped as compulsory microchipping comes into force in April.

“I would like to encourage all responsible dog owners in the constituency who have not yet had their dogs chipped to come along. It will not take up much of your time and it is completely free.”

Microchipping is a simple and effective tool which helps to rapidly reunite lost or straying pets with their owners. This in turn reduces the number of healthy dogs unnecessarily put to sleep and saves money for Local Authorities by cutting kennelling costs. Compulsory microchipping was successfully introduced in Northern Ireland in 2012 and Scotland, Wales and England are set to follow suit in April 2016.
