Highlands and Islands Labour MSP, Rhoda Grant, has sought assurances about the future of bus services in North Uist after she was contacted by a concerned constituent.
Rhoda Grant said “I was contacted by a constituent who was concerned that the Post Bus service in the Lochmaddy area is to cease from April and it wasn’t clear if it was going to be replaced.
Mrs Grant continued “I contacted the Comhairle and Royal Mail who operate the service presently and I have been advised that all bus services in Uist were re-tendered and that all of the North Uist services, including the Post Bus service in Lochmaddy, will be operated by Grenitote Travel from April. I hope this offers reassurance that the service in Lochmaddy will continue, just by a different operator. Royal Mail also stressed that this will have no impact on mail services in the area and it will continue to provide first class mail services to customers.”
