SNP MSP for Na h-Eileanan an Iar, Alasdair Allan, has congratulated all those from the islands who took part in the Royal National Mòd this year, which took place in Oban and ended last weekend.
Alasdair Allan, as Minister for Scotland’s Languages, used the opportunity of the Mòd to meet with Bòrd na Gàidhlig to discuss ways in which the current education bill can be amended to further strengthen the rights of communities seeking to establish a Gaelic medium unit in their local school.
He also took part in the Mòd directly as part of Back District Gaelic Choir.
Commenting, Alasdair Allan said:
“With gold medalists amongst the many islanders who won competitions in Oban the Western Isles have much to celebrate about their contribution to this year’s event. We have every reason to look forward to the 2016 Mòd which will be held in the Western Isles.
“I’d like to congratulate everyone who was involved in making this year’s event such a success, both for the Islands’ musical tradition and for the Gaelic language more widely.”
