TOURISM OUTER HEBRIDES: OUR FUTURE IN OUR HANDS

Outer hebrides tourismThe 6th annual tourism conference on the Outer Hebrides takes place next week over 2 days (in the Dark Island Hotel, Benbecula, 6th October and An Lanntair, Stornoway, 7th October) allowing local operators and tourism businesses to participate whether based in the northern or southern Outer Hebrides.

The conference aims to:

  • raise awareness of the opportunities for all tourism enterprises in the Outer Hebrides to engage in new and exciting collaborative activities to help drive their tourism growth and enhance our visitors’ experience of this special place and
  • provide much needed opportunities for everyone involved in tourism across the islands to meet, network and explore opportunities to collaborate.

A core programme will be tailored to reflect local issues, north and south.

An excellent mix of speakers will present and be available for discussion from a range of organisations including VisitScotland, Scottish Tourism Alliance, Glasgow Welcomes, Resource Efficient Scotland and the Scottish Cycle Tourism Forum.

Issues to be discussed reflect the scale of the tourism opportunity for the Outer Hebrides, from speakers with direct experience of what the Outer Hebrides has to offer to stimulate ideas in those businesses attending who offer these experiences on helping focus energy on turning our truly outstanding assets into high quality, value for money and authentic experiences for visitors.

OHT’s conference offers a mix of talks and interactive sessions with something for everyone. A market place is planned over the course of each day allowing delegates to find out more about opportunities available to them and to take time to network together. A leaflet exchange space will help ensure everyone knows what businesses are available to partner with or just promote across the islands!

This end of  summer season conference is a great chance for local tourism business owners to catch up with some of the latest developments and opportunities, participate in workshops and network with others in the same or related businesses.
