Highlands and Islands Labour MSP, Rhoda Grant, is again putting pressure on government to make progress with the long awaited interconnector which will transmit electricity generated on the islands to the national grid.
Commenting, Rhoda Grant said “Ministers said last year this was top priority and yet nothing has happened. It begs the question what happens if things are not top priority?” She continued “This is a hugely important issue for the islands. The economic benefits for communities in exporting generated electricity is huge. Progress must be made on this, and soon.”
Labour’s Prospective Parliamentary Candidate, Alasdair Morrison said “For our renewable energy potential to be realised we need an inter-connector. The inter-connector is a show-stopper – the politicians cannot be allowed to delay this much needed infrastructure any further – let them demonstrate their commitment to our islands and give it the political priority it rightly merits.”
