Admissions to Blar Buidhe care home in Stornoway temporarily suspended

heb logoA multi-agency review into the HC One owned Blar Buidhe Care Home in the Outer Hebrides is underway following a number of concerns raised over the dietary programmes of residents.

Residents, families and/or their representatives will be contacted and a report will be compiled detailing what, if any, action is required. The process is being undertaken in line with Adult Protection guidelines.

Iain Macaulay, Western Isles Chief Social Work Officer, said: “Following concerns brought to my attention at the end of last year, and in light of these new issues being brought to the Comhairle’s attention, a multi-agency meeting involving all the relevant agencies has agreed that a review should be carried out to ascertain if there are underlying ongoing issues at Blar Buidhe which require redress. We have acted quickly, in light of previous issues taken together with these latest concerns, by adopting a more interventionist approach, to reassure ourselves and families that there is no immediate risk to any of the residents and we are determined that the highest standards of care are in place at all residential facilities in the Western Isles. Families of residents are being informed of the current procedures underway”.

Admissions to the Care Home have been temporarily suspended.
