Western Isles MP, Angus MacNeil was involved in a political heave ho of a different nature when he took part in Macmillan Cancer Support’s 27th annual Parliamentary Tug of War on Tuesday 3 June, sponsored by Taylor Wimpey.
Angus MacNeil MP joined forces with other cross-party MPs in a match which pitted the House of Commons against the House of Lords at the charity event, raising £141,000 which will help Macmillan to make sure no one faces cancer alone.
Ultimately, the Commons men were determined not to be over thrown and used their weight advantage to trounce the Lords in two straight pulls, sending the Peers flying into the crowd in one instance.
Angus MacNeil said:
“Macmillan’s Parliamentary Tug of War gets together politicians of all persuasions to pull together and put their weight behind a great cause. The money raised will mean there’ll be a Macmillan team in the corner of some of the two million people living with cancer, supporting them every step of the way.”
“The unique event, which takes place in London’s Westminster Abbey’s College Gardens, has been sponsored by Taylor Wimpey since its inception and has raised over £3.5m since 1987.
Mr MacNeil added:
“I also had the double joy of being involved in Westminster pulling itself apartJ”
