SKYE BOOK FESTIVAL ATTRACTS TOP AUTHORS

Acclaimed authors James Robertson, Mairi Hedderwick and Tom Pow will be among the writers appearing at the second Skye Book Festival, Fèis Leabhraichean an Eilein, in July.

James Robertson is celebrated for his bestselling novels ‘The Testament of Gideon Mack’ and the epic ‘And the Land Lay Still’. His latest book, ‘The Professor of Truth’, will be published in June.

“I’m very pleased to be coming to Portree for the Skye Book Festival,” said James Robertson. “My new novel ‘The Professor of Truth’, which, although fiction, is inspired by the Lockerbie bombing and subsequent events, will be newly out and should provide plenty of scope for discussion and debate.”

Mairi Hedderwick became famous with her children’s books about the life and times of Katie Morag. She has since written and published such popular illustrated travelogues as ‘An Eye on the Hebrides’, the story of a pilgrimage around her beloved western islands. Mairi will be hosting both children’s and adults’ events at Fèis Leabhraichean an Eilein.

Tom Pow is an award-winning poet who has also written novels for young adults, picture books, radio plays and travel books. His latest book, ‘In Another World: Among Europe’s Dying Villages’, explores some of the most rapidly vanishing areas of the continent.

Skye Book Festival committee chairman Donald MacDonald said: “We are delighted to attract such a high standard of writers to the island this year. There will be several others over the course of the festival, whose names we will release shortly.

“The Skye Book Festival proved last year that there is an appetite for a diverse programme of literary events in Skye, for young people and adults, and we aim to continue providing it.”

Fèis Leabhraichean an Eilein will take place at the Aros Centre in Portree on 25th, 26th, 27th of July.
