Following reports of shortages of red diesel used by construction and shipping, Angus MacNeil MP for Na h-Eileanan an Iar, has called on Scottish Fuels to get some order into their distribution management.
Mr MacNeil said:
“While we have long been annoyed with the price of fuel in the islands we can only be exasperated by this current shortage and specifically the lack of red diesel.
“A businessman has told me that he had to send people home this week due to lack of red diesel to operate the machinery and small fishing harbours have been left with little or indeed no fuel.
“I have been in touch with Sam Chambers, Chairman of Scottish Fuels who has promised me that he will look into the situation, he said quiet wisely, that they are not in the business of not supplying customers and he will look into the matter urgently.
“He understands that in difficult economic times the last thing people need is to be totally chocked of economic activity.
I hope that Scottish fuels will act as quickly as possible to ensure that in general Barra and Vatersay have plenty red diesel and also the fishing harbours such Kallin in Grimsay, North Uist.”
