Western Isles MSP, Alasdair Allan, presented an award to Sgoil a’ Bhac at the prestigious Film G awards in Glasgow on Friday evening. The school had won the prize for best Gaelic in the competition which recognises Gaelic film-making talent across Scotland.
Alasdair Allan, who is Minister with responsibility for Gaelic, commented:
“Sgoil a’ Bhac’s five minute film ‘An sgaibh mòr’ won them the Scottish Government-sponsored prize for best Gaelic in any of the films produced by young people. It was very nice to open the envelope on stage and find that the Bacaich had done so well! Many congratulations to all who took part and to the school as a whole.
“Other prizes included a well-deserved award to Sgioba Dràma Uibhist for their humorous take on the St Kildan experience, and what might have happened if the Hiortaich had had internet access!
“FilmG offers Gaelic speakers the chance to learn new skills and gain confidence in film making. Events like this highlight the huge benefits film-making in Gaelic can have in for Scotland’s cultural landscape and in engaging young people in what, for some of them may prove to be the career path they take up in future. Congratulations to all those who were successful on Friday night.”
