Training of new Harris Tweed weavers set to get underway

A new training course designed to encourage new weavers into the Harris Tweed industry is set to start on Tuesday 11 October 2011 in specially adapted premises in Stornoway.

The 12 week training programme will accommodate 12 trainees and is joint funded by Skills Development Scotland, the Harris Tweed Industry, Highlands and Islands Enterprise and Comhairle Nan Eilean Siar.  The course is accredited by the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) at Scottish Vocational Qualification Level 1 (Manufacturing Textile Products) with planned progression to Level 2.

The training programme will be locally managed by staff within the Comhairle’s Accredited Training and Skills Section and accredited through their approved SQA Centre.
