Following a successful year of fundraising, members of staff at The Co-operative Food Macaulay Road store in Stornoway have donated over £12,000 to three local charities.
Cheques were presented to Bethesada Care Home and Hospice, Macmillan Cancer Support and Alzheimer Scotland on Monday (14 February) at the store, with charity representatives meeting the staff and customers involved in the fundraising.
The year of fundraising saw staff undertaking a range of activities, from the Stornoway Half Marathon and Land’s End to John O’Groat’s bike ride to backpacking, fundays and raffles. The most recent event was a charity trolley dash, which saw customer Erin Davidson take part in a dash round the aisles, after winning an in-store customer raffle.
The raffle, with other prizes including a £200 Co-operative Food voucher and a Christmas hamper worth £100, raised over £4,500 to add to the store’s total funds and be split between the three charities.
Store manager Steven Cooper said: “We are extremely proud to donate such a fantastic sum of money to our three chosen charities, and we would like to thank all our customers who have generously helped as well.
“Raising money for local charities is something that is very close to our hearts as a team and is something that we are set to continue
