NHS Western Isles staff complete public health certificate

Staff within the NHS Western Isles and partner organisations have successfully completed a Public Health certificate in Nutrition and Health, delivered by the Nutrition Training Company. This is a nationally recognised qualification contributing towards continuing the professional development of health care staff and, in particular, childcare organisations.

The course has provided the candidates with additional knowledge to enhance work already being undertaken with children, families and childcare providers regarding nutrition and health.

All of the 15 course participants passed, with either an Honour or a Credit which brings a total of 31 successful participants over the last two years. Additionally, four progressed to the next level and gained the Diploma for this.

Emelin Collier, Head of Planning and Development at NHS Western Isles, said: “Nutrition in infancy and pregnancy are high on the agenda for the NHS inScotland with various HEAT targets for breastfeeding, child weight intervention strategies and coronary heart disease prevention. This professional qualification in nutrition awarded by the Royal Society for Public Health is exactly the type of training required by health visitors and early years advisors to help them meet these targets.”

This course was funded by monies provided by the government to promote healthy living, particularly in Early Years.
