ocal businesses partner together in bid to display vast range of career opportunities within the Highlands

UntitledLocal business, HIJOBS – an online portal to help jobseekers find employment in rural communities – has partnered with Marine Harvest Scotland in a bid to raise awareness of the career opportunities on the doorsteps of local people.

Spanning rural locations in Scotland, in particular in the Highlands and Islands, HIJOBS connects candidates with employers and enables them to stay in more secluded locations without sacrificing career potential.

Says a spokesperson: “Marine Harvest is the largest salmon farming company in Scotland, producing more than 48,000 tonnes of salmon last year.

“Celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, it has grown from its original home at Lochailort to become a major employer in the Western Highlands and Islands.”

Commenting on the partnership, Laura Saunders, commercial lead at HIJOBS, said: “We are really excited to be working with Marine Harvest.

“Having one of the largest aquaculture companies in the world listing up to ten jobs at any one time on the HIJOBS platform, all in the local area, demonstrates that there is something for everyone in the Highlands in terms of career variation. We are also proud to work so closely with a Living Wage Accredited Employer.”

Marine Harvest Scotland managing director, Alan Sutherland, commented: “Salmon farming is a major success story for Scotland. People often mistakenly think the jobs we offer are fairly straightforward manual jobs, but that’s no longer the case.

“Some of our jobs are very technical and complex and we have a wide range of different jobs within the company – at the last count we had more than 74 different posts. They vary from environmental specialists to accountants, as well as those based on the farms.

“We employ more than 600 people across all our sites and facilities and this number is increasing with the expansion of our processing plant.

“We’re delighted to be working with a local company to recruit staff and help sustain jobs and communities in some of the most economically fragile parts of the UK.”

HIJOBS have a database of over 650 employers who regularly post job vacancies and we encourage anyone searching for a job or considering a move to a more rural location to see what great opportunities are on offer.
