Kara breaks Island Games Record in 50m Breaststroke Heats

Kara Hanlon from Stornoway swam 31.33 seconds in the heats of the 50m Breaststroke this morning to break the Island Games record and become the tenth fastest British swimmer of all time at this event; an amazing performance.

 

Elsewhere, Kerry Macphee took gold and sister Kirsty took silver in the cross country cycling event.

 

Cllr Norman A MacDonald, Convener of Comhairle nan Eilean Siar said: “Congratulations to Kara, her family and her coaching team and we wish her all the very best in tonight’s final. Congratulations also to sisters Kerry and Kirsty MacPhee who were successful in the cross country cycling. We wish all the Western Isles athletes continued success in the various events over the coming days”

 

The final of the 50m breaststroke will take place this evening (Monday 29th June) about 6pm.
