A
study on the cost of living in rural Scotland is long overdue,’ said Rhoda Grant (Scottish Labour Regional MSP for the Highlands & Islands), ‘and will provide essential information to help formulate government policy for the Highlands & Islands.”
Rhoda Grant was commenting on the announcement of the newly commissioned research looking at the costs of goods and services on remote and rural Scotland.
‘Many of the policy and budget decisions relating to the Highlands & Islands, “ continued Ms Grant, “are based on out of date information or anecdotal evidence. Similar research in other parts of the UK has led to policy decisions which has improved the quality of life in rural communities. I just hope that the Scottish Government, along with local authorities, will have the foresight to take decisions with similar results for Scotland.”
