A local consumer received a call from someone who claimed to be calling on behalf of Citizens Advice and that he could help her if she was having money problems. The consumer was suspicious of this call, refused to answer any questions and put the phone down.
A Comhairle spokesperson said “this consumer did the right thing. Citizens Advice Service would never cold call consumers and it is vital that consumers never divulge any personal or financial information to anyone over the phone in this manner, no matter who they claim to be.”
He continued, “if consumers are experiencing money problems and they need advice they can obtain free, independent, impartial and confidential advice from their local Citizens Advice Bureau or from www.moneyadvicescotland.org.uk or the National Debtline on 0808 808 4000.”
