New boat for Leverburgh Lifeboat station

The villageof Leverburgh, South Harris, last night, welcomed a new Lifeboat to its station. The RNLB Royal Thames arrived at Leverburgh pier at 1950 hours (Tues 7th), accompanied by a flotilla of local vessels. She will replace the RNLB Lifetime Care which has served the station, on a temporary basis, since it went operational on 11th May.  Both boats are all-weather Mersey-class vessels.

The RNLB Royal Thames previously served at the RNLI’s station inEastbourne. TheEastbourne station has recently welcomed a brand new Tamar-class boat to their station, named The Royal Jubilee.

The Royal Thames has recently been serviced at the RNLI’s state-of-art headquarters where she received 2 new engines.

Crew members from both the Leverburgh andEastbourne stations have recently been in touch with one another and each station now shares their own identical mascots.  Two volunteer crew from theEastbourne station accompanied the Royal Thames to Leverburgh.

The RNLB Lifetime Care will leave Leverburgh today (Wed 8^th ) for the journey down to Poole, where she will be based as a relief Lifeboat.

Leverburgh Lifeboat Station is operating for a trial period of a minimum of one year. The station will be subject to a quarterly divisional inspection later this month.
