Comhairle nan Eilean Siar Trading Standards Service is advising consumers to be wary when responding to invitations to have their Dyson vacuum cleaners serviced in their homes.
Consumers have received phone calls from a company offering to carry out a service on their Dyson for a special price. Some consumers have gained the impression from the phone call that they are dealing directly with the Dyson company but the Trading Standards Service has been informed by Dyson that they have no engineers presently in our area.
If they agree to a service, consumers should think twice if the engineer then advises that parts have to be replaced or other repair works carried out as this can considerably increase the cost of the service visit. The advice is to get a second opinion before agreeing to any work being done.
Consumers can get further advice from the Trading Standard Officers on 01851 822 694. Information is also available on www.dyson.co.uk
