Western Isles MSP welcomes Olympic flame to Lewis

Western Isles MSP, Alasdair Allan, today welcomed the Olympic Flame to the Western Isles on behalf of the Scottish Government, at an event in Stornoway attended by 2000 islanders.

Alasdair Allan commented:

“Today was a very memorable day for the Western Isles as we welcomed the Olympic Flame on its tour of Scotland. Today also happens to be the Sports Day for many island schools and it is difficult to imagine a better way of opening a school sports day than the appearance of an Olympic Flame!

“I would like to congratulate everyone responsible for today’s events, which included a visit to the Callanish Stones at sunrise, a torch relay around Lews Castle grounds and Stornoway Town Centre, Gaelic songs and entertainment.

“Today bodes well for the future of sport in the islands as we look forward, not only to the Olympics, but also

to the Commonwealth Games in 2014.”
