Highlands & Islands Labour MSP, David Stewart, who set up and leads the Highland & Islands based road safety group NOSDAT (North Of Scotland Driver Awareness team), will visit the Western Isles on Tuesday, 31 January 2012, and meet with Bernard Chisholm, Head of Childrens Services and Resources, at Western Isles Council.
The reason for this particular visit, is to allow David Stewart to hand over the campaign group’s recently completed film which features local people, including the family of Callum Matheson, the Inverness teenager who was one of two young people killed in a fatal collision in the city during March 2010, and shows the devastation Callum’s death has caused to the family. Also featuring are local young people who have recently passed their driving test or are currently taking driving lessons.
The film is part of the campaign ‘Sensible Driving – Always Arriving’ which has two broad aims:
Political – Introduce a form of restricted licence for new drivers
Education – Your Passengers – Your Responsibility.

Commenting on the latest phase of this campaign David Stewart said “ Thanks to the support of Stagecoach Bus whose donation has funded our short film, we are able to show the viewer, first hand, the devastation such a tragedy brings to families who suffer the loss of loved ones as a result of a road traffic collisions. At the outset of our filming, I said I wanted to donate a DVD of our film free to every secondary school in the Highlands & Islands. This is the purpose of this particular meeting, as I hand over the DVDs for the Western Isles”.
