The current weather forecasts are suggesting winds between 60 and 85mph with the possibility of some snow for the Western isles area. This is likely to be at its worst between 5pm and 7pm this evening although weather warnings continue up to midnight..
In these circumstances the Comhairle, on a precautionary basis, considers it necessary to close all schools between 1pm and 2pm today to ensure all children and young people travel home in daylight before the worst of the weather.
Schools are anticipated to open tomorrow as normal although we would ask parents to check the Comhairle website and listen to local radio.
Headteachers will continue to make decisions in respect of their individual schools based on local conditions.
