The SNP youth wing, Young Scots for Independence, tonight (Monday) kicked
off its independence tour in Stornoway by holding a public meeting in the
town’s Bridge Community Centre. The public meeting and question and answer
session was led by local MSP, Dr Alasdair Allan and Young Scots for
Independence Convener, David Linden.
SNP MSP for Na h-Eileanan an Iar, Alasdair Allan, commented:
“Tonight’s turnout of all ages showed the growing interest there is in the
independence referendum, and the great opportunity Scotland now has to
decide its own future.
“More than anything else, perhaps, the turnout of young people was a vote
of confidence in an independent future for our country.
David Linden, who leads the SNP’s youth wing, added:
“It was great to be in Stornoway tonight to kick off this independence
debate.
“Over the course of this evening’s session we took questions that included
involvement the European Union, currency, defence, broadcasting, pensions
and benefits and a host of other subjects. They key point is that, with
independence, Scotland will have direct control over all of these areas
which, at present, are decided – and in many cases – mishandled in
Westminster.
“The forthcoming referendum is an exciting opportunity for Scots of all
ages and we’re keen to get stuck into the campaign. Over the next few
years we’ll be touring the country, speaking about Scotland’s future and
making the case for self-determination”.
