Loganair, Scotland’s Airline, will be offering four flights in each direction each weekday, adding 10,000 seats to the schedule over the next 12 months and increasing the number of low-fare flights available between the two destinations. Currently, the Flybe franchise carrier offers three flights between Glasgow and Stornoway each weekday.
The additional service, operated by Loganair’s 34-seat Saab 340B aircraft, will leave Glasgow at 10:50 during the week, arriving in Stornoway at 11:55. The timing is designed to offer excellent connections to Stornoway from UK regional and London services operated by Flybe and British Airways.
The new service will then leave Stornoway at 12:25, arriving in Glasgow at 13:25 in good time to meet early afternoon onward services from Glasgow or allow visitors to attend afternoon meetings or functions in and around Glasgow.
Commenting on the move, Loganair’s Chief Operating Officer Jonathan Hinkles said: “In common with many other routes, we reduced the frequency of service between Glasgow and Stornoway as the economic downturn had impacted heavily on passenger numbers.
“We had always intended cutbacks of this nature to be temporary, and planned to restore the fourth weekday flight to our schedule when demand warranted its re-introduction
“I’m pleased that, following several months of modest growth in the number of passengers using the route, we have been able to add this extra service back into our timetable ahead of the busy summer travel period.”
