With the start of a new school term Comhairle nan Eilean Siar’s Community Education Department have launched their autumn series of Gaelic workshops aimed at supporting parents.
The course entitled ‘Gaelic for Parents – Language for the Pre-school child and Homework support’ is ideal for the parents and guardians of children attending Gaelic pre-school education or those who are already in their early years of Gaelic Medium Education (GME).
The workshops, which will take place in several locations across Lewis and Harris throughout the months of September and November 2010, will provide support to parents who are learners of the language. Graeme Miller, Community Education Officer at Comhairle nan Eilean Siar said:
“The workshops offer support to parents with the pronunciation of words in Gaelic and useful phrases for use in the home of bilingual children. Parents meet others in a similar situation to themselves, build confidence and create their own support network. The learning is informal and parents can select their own priorities. I would encourage those who feel they could do with support and assistance to make full use of these workshops”.
If you are interested in the workshops, they are taking place in the following locations at the following times:
SEPTEMBER 2010: Borve Hall, Wednesdays, 11-1pm
Breasclete Hall, Wednesdays, 9-11am
Leverburgh School, Tuesdays, 10-12pm
Stornoway Town Hall, Fridays, 9.30-12.30pm
NOVEMBER 2010: Borve Hall, Wednesdays, 11-1pm
