Alasdair Allan MSP has asked Highland Council to respond to complaints from his constituents that Uig pier on Skye which serves the ferries to North Uist and Harris can be an inhospitable place in bad weather.
“Harris and Uist”
Alasdair Allan commented:
“For my constituents in the Outer Hebrides the ferry terminal at Uig in Skye is one of the vital routes to and from the mainland. The pier, which is owned by Highland Council, can be a pretty windswept place for travellers in the winter. A number of people have asked me if I can approach the council to find whether they have improvements planned by way of shelter and facilities.
“I appreciate that no local authority is made of money at the moment but it would be good to know what Highland Council’s long term plans are. Although Highland Council own the pier it is people in Harris and Uist who perhaps have the greatest interest in ensuring it provides a reasonably comfortable experience for passengers. I look forward to hearing from the council on this issue and working with them in the future.”
