A draft Gaelic Language Plan for NHS Western Isles is currently out for public consultation.
Under the Gaelic Language ( Scotland) Act, certain public bodies are asked to prepare a Gaelic Language Plan. The Gaelic Plan sets out how the organisation will encourage and promote Gaelic.

The consultation draft of the plan will be available for inspection at the reception desks in Health Board Offices, Western Isles Hospital, Uist & BarraHospital and St Brendan’s. It is also available on the Health Board website; http://www.wihb.scot.nhs.uk/index.asp
The consultation period will run until September 20, which is the closing date for comments. A public meeting with be held in the Clinical Skills Area of Western Isles Hospital on September 1 2010 (with a videolink to Uist and Barra Hospital) as part of this process.
NHS Western Isles Chief Executive Gordon Jamieson commented: “This is an important plan which will help sustain our local language and culture. I would encourage members of the public to have a look at the plan and to make comments on its contents.”
