Comhairle nan Eilean Siar is warning householders to beware of a phone call scam which seeks to gather people’s personal bank details in return for a refund on their council tax.
Similar scams have been operating in other parts of the country.
“Calls not made by Council Tax team”
A spokesperson for the Comhairle said: “The calls are not being made by our Council Tax team and residents should not give their personal information or bank details to anyone over the phone.
We do not phone anyone for personal details in order to issue a refund.”
