Golf club members will have to keep on waiting to enjoy a drink at the clubhouse in Stornoway on a Sunday as a second attempt by the organisation to gain a licence failed yesterday (Wednesday).
The Western Isles Licensing board voted 6 to 4 against granting permission to sell alcohol on a Sunday – the board has rejected a previous application in May.
“No reason given”
The club is hoping to diversify the appeal of the Clubhouse to diners and sports enthusiasts and it wanted permission to sell drink between 12 noon and 11pm, as well as a carry out sales section from 12.30pm to 10pm.
The club is now considering whether to make a court appeal against the latest rejection as no reason was given by the board for their refusal. It is believed that the club committee will make a decision on the matter at their next meeting on August 12
