Camasunary Bay on the Isle of Skye got a much needed Spring Clean thanks to volunteers for the John Muir Trust, the UK’s leading wild land charity.
Beautiful from a distance, Camasunary faces south-west towards the current running between Rum and Eigg and also the prevailing wind, and so it acts as a magnet for marine litter. After five years without an organised clean up, the decided to take it on.
Almost 230 cubic metres of plastic rubbish was collected, along with enough fishing net to cover three football pitches. Short pieces of fishing net were extremely common place, and time consuming to gather. An estimated 100 barrels and 150 large plastic containers were also picked up.
