A regular visitor to the Western Isles – a snowy owl – has returned to the islands in its search for a mate.
The large male bird was first spotted in 2003 and has returned every year since, it is believed it first arrived in the UK from foreign shores, perhaps as far as North America.
In 2008 the bird managed to attract a female, however the romance was short lived and the pair went their separate ways.
It is hoped that if the bird can attract a new mate the pair could be the first snowy owls to breed in the UK in more than 30 years
