Following today’s announcement by the Scottish Government that the Home Insulation Scheme is now being rolled out to North Uist, Benbecula, South Uist and Barra, Councillor Norman A. Macdonald, Chairman of the Environment and Protective Services Committee said
“Hundreds of households”
“The Comhairle welcomes the confirmation that the Home Insulation Scheme will now be available in the Uists and Barra over the next year and hope that as many households as possible will be able to benefit from getting more insulation to help reduce fuel bills and also as a result cut carbon emissions. We have the highest levels of Fuel Poverty of any Scottish local authority, so we support all progress in reducing fuel bills for householders – this is one Scheme to provide additional savings and we will also be supporting further proposals to help all families across the Outer Hebrides”
Last year the Scottish Government approved the Comhairle’s bid for the Home Insulation Scheme to come to the Outer Hebrides, which was only approved for Lewis and Harris initially.
This Scheme has resulted in a team of people being appointed to knock on every door on Lewis and Harris to offer energy advice, collect data about the house and to offer roof and cavity wall insulation at reduced prices, with hundreds of households benefitting from the Scheme.
