“Ionad Spòrs Leòdhais”
For the second year, Comhairle nan Eilean Siar will be participating in the World Wildlife Fund’s (WWF) Earth Hour 2010.
At 8.30pm on Saturday 27th March the Comhairle will switch off the lights at the War Memorial on the outskirts of Stornoway, the clock of the Town Hall and the floodlights outside the main Comhairle building and Ionad Spòrs Leòdhais.
TIG/ Taigh Blàth will also be handing out energy saving gadgets during Saturday the 27th of March at Ionad Spòrs Leòdhais.
Leader of Comhairle nan Eilean Siar Councillor Angus Campbell said:
“There are 1110 cities”
“Our decision to join the WWF’s Earth Hour highlights our commitment to the issue of climate change and demonstrates to others around the world thatScotland continues to take action to address climate change. I would encourage members of the public and owners of large buildings open to the public to take part in the Earth Hour by switching off”.
Seumas Cunningham, a pupil in the Nicolson Institute who was instrumental in getting the Comhairle involved in last years Earth Hour commented:
“I am delighted that the Comhairle are again participating in the WWF’s Earth Hour There are 1110 cities and towns in 90 countries already participating by switching off some major landmarks and I am delighted that the Western Isles are part of that”.
