Berneray Community Centre on the Isle of Berneray was today the location for the Outer Hebrides Rural Network Event.
The event, which was organised by the Scottish National Rural Network, attracted groups, organisations and individuals from across the Western Isles.
“Rural Development Programme”
The event was organised to give people the opportunity to hear about some of the projects and activities taking place not only in the Western Isles but elsewhere in rural Scotland.
Those present were given an update on the Scottish Rural Development Programme and funding opportunities available to them through programmes such as LEADER Innse Gall.
Chairing the event was Frank Rennie, Professor of Sustainable Rural Development and Head of research and Post Graduate Development at the UHI Millennium Institute. Professor Rennie commented:
“I am delighted to be invited to Chair today’s proceedings. It is important to engage in dialogue with others who are involved in economic and community development and to exchange the good practice that is taking place within our communities”.
“The opportunity to network”
Commenting after the event Councillor Archie Campbell who is the Chair of LEADER Innse Gall said:
“Today’s event was extremely useful and provided attendees with a range of information on the funding that could be available to them as well as invaluable advice on how best to access rural funding. The opportunity to network with groups and organisations I hope will prove to be beneficial to all. Thanks are due to Beverly MacLean and Norette Ferns of the Scottish National Rural Network for the organisation”.
