NHS Western Isles has received an above inflation budget pot of £58.1 million to fund services in the forthcoming year.
Health Secretary Nicola Sturgeon announced the figure which is an increase of 2.55 %, saying that the Health Board would have the resources needed to progress its plans and ensure patients continue to be at the heart of the NHS.
“Reinvest in frontline services”
Ms Sturgeon said: “This above inflation increase in revenue funding to NHS Western Isles in these difficult economic times, underlines this Government’s unshakeable commitment to our publicly-funded mutual health service.”
The health board is also required to make two per cent efficiency savings which it keeps to reinvest in frontline services.
The health authority has had its share of financial struggles over the last few years, however recently it was reported that they expect to achieve a financial break-even by the end of this month.
