Western Isles MP Angus MacNeil has written to the Parliamentary Secretary of State at the Ministry of Defence, Quentin Davies MP seeking assurances about the new Search and Rescue Helicopter contract which will be awarded sometime this year.
Last week the Government announced that the Soteria Consortium were the preferred bidders for the contract.
Mr MacNeil commented:
“I have written to Mr Davies asking for guarantees that whenever the new contract is awarded that the same level of service will be provided by a SAR helicopter based in Stornoway, and also that the same number of personnel will be employed their.
“It is important that these guarantees are given and that we will not see the providers of the new contract giving an inferior service to the one that we currently have in Stornoway.
