Western Isles MSP, Alasdair Allan, has welcomed the granting of planning permission for the much anticipated new dental centre in Stornoway.
Dr Allan told Hebrides news Today:
“It is great news that this new dental centre has now been given the go ahead to replace the current building on Bayhead with a modern purpose built facility. This will I believe greatly help to improve the dental health of the Western Isles. Hopefully it will also aid in drastically cutting the number of people in the Western Isles who are still waiting to register with an NHS Dentist.
“The new centre will also have a new teaching unit as well which will allow dental students from Aberdeen University Dental School to be taught on outreach and new graduates to be supported on their first year post-qualification in the Western Isles. This will all help to support dental health in the Western Isles and hopefully avoid the problems of the past with too few dentists trying to serve the entire islands’ population.”
