The sum of £39, 720 has been awarded recently to the Lewis and Harris Horticultural Producers by the Climate Challenge Fund.
The Horticultural Producers are a co-operative group of over 70 horticultural producers based in Lewis and Harris who grow their own produce and who supply locally.
This membership makes them one of the largest growers groups in the Highlands and Islands.
The funding, through the Growing Carbon Reduction Project, will provide education, motivation and encouragement to new and existing growers as well as developing a sustainable horticultural legacy for future island generations.
Leader of Comhairle nan Eilean Siar, Councillor Angus Campbell told Hebrides news Today:
“I am delighted with this funding which will enable the Horticultural Producers to take their highly successful project to a new level. Climate change will have its implications on all of us and I would like to thank the Climate Challenge Fund in enabling to support communities in taking direct action on climate change by reducing carbon emissions”.
