Millions will have to be slashed from the Western Isles Council budget in order to balance the books.
Redundancies and not filling vacant posts are just two of the moves planned to achieve £14.5 million of savings by 2014.
There are also growing fears that many front-line services such as home care for the elderly will be hit hard in the new budget, which councillors will meet on Thursday to debate.
