Western Isles Pupils Shortlisted For Film G Awards

The shortlist for the 2009 Film G Awards have been announced ahead of this year’s prize giving ceremony which will be held in Eden Court Theatre in Inverness on Friday the 5th of February 2010.

Western Isles schools are well represented in the shortlist of the competition, which is run by MG ALBA and is in its second year.

Comhairle nan Eilean Siar’s Cultural Co-ordinator Service organised training and support for the Western Isles schools who have taken part in Film G 09.

This support has been instrumental in delivering the final product to Film G.

Sgoil Lionacleit and the Nicolson Institute have made the final four in the category for ‘Best Film’.  Kerry Anne MacLeod and Eileen MacLennan, both senior pupils in the Nicolson, will compete against youngsters from across Scotland in the category of ‘Best Performance’.

Sgoil Lìonacleit and Castlebay Community School have demonstrated their talent in Gaelic writing and secured nomination in the category for ‘Best Script’.

Another Stornoway group, Video Heb, run by Theatre Hebrides, have been shortlisted in the category entitled ‘Best Interpretation of Theme’. Convenor of Comhairle nan Eilean Siar, Alex MacDonald said:
“I am delighted that the Western Isles pupils are again well represented in this nation-wide competition.

In Film G’s inaugural year, Western Isles schools performed well and Castlebay Community School emerged as winners of the ‘Best Film’ category.

This is an excellent competition which develops the skills of our youngsters, and their schools and community groups are to be commended for their hard work.

It only serves to highlight the opportunities in the Gaelic media and creative sector and it is encouraging that we have so may talented youngsters in our islands.

I wish all the pupils every success at the prize giving”.
