Western Isles MSP meets Digital UK

Alisdair Allan MSP

Western Isles  MSP,Alasdair Allan visited the Digital UK drop-in clinic which was held in the Barvas and Brue Community Centre to inform the local community about the forthcoming digital TV switchover.

Digital UK is currently visiting communities all over the Western Isles to inform them about the approaching switching off of analogue television.

Alasdair Allan commented:

“I got the chance to attend one of the Digital UK drop in sessions in Barvas to hear about the kinds of advice and support being offered to communities as switchover approaches.

“Most part of the Western Isles are due to switchover in July 2010, although some parts of Barra and Vatersay won’t switchover until October.

As many viewers will have noticed, messages are starting to appear across the screen for viewers still using analogue channels warning them that this signal will soon be switched off.

“Digital UK are happy to offer advice and assistance for the thousand or so households in the islands who, it is believed, have still to make arrangements to get digital TV.

In particular elderly people and people with disabilities may be eligible for financial assistance under the national “Switchover Help Scheme”. People still needing advice or assistance can contact Digital UK on 08456 50 50 50.”
