Medical Ward 1 in Western Isles Hospital reopened today.
A small number of patients in the hospital recently experienced symptoms of what was confirmed as Norovirus (winter vomiting bug) and the ward was closed to admissions last week.
There have been no new patients with symptoms for the past four days, and the decision was therefore taken to re-open the ward.
Restricted visiting hours are no longer in place. However, visitors will continue to be encouraged to limit their visiting times to between 3pm-4pm and 7pm-8pm as far as possible.
(Reduced visiting times afford patients more privacy, and give patients a more structured day. Set visiting times also ensure that domestic staff do not have to work around visitors and provides clinical staff with uninterrupted time to provide quality care to patients. There are also infection control benefits with this approach.)
