Western Isles MSP, Alasdair Allan, last night attended the official handover by Environment Minister, Roseanna Cunningham, of the three West of Harris estates of Borve, Luskentyre and Scaristavore.
The land was officially handed over from Scottish Government ownership into the hands of the community-run West Harris Trust.
Speaking after the transfer, Alasdair Allan, commented:
“This is an important and historic step towards a better future for people in this part of Harris. The people are now their own landlords.
“I have been supportive of this bid and have been pleased to work with the Trust in their lengthy efforts to achieve community ownership, which have finally paid off tonight. I will continue to support the West Harris Trust as they seek to develop their community, both economically and socially. This is just the beginning, the real work of ensuring a more secure, prosperous future for this part of Harris begins here.
“I wish the people of these communities every success with this venture they have embarked upon.”
