Fairness at the heart of the Lib Dem manifesto.

Commenting after Nick Cleggs announcement of the four priority areas at the next election local Lib Dem prospective candidate Jean Davis said,

“Fairness will be at the heart of our election manifesto. With four priorities for how we will make Britain a fairer place: fair taxes; a fair start for every child; fair, clean and local politics; and a fair, green economy with jobs that last.”

“There will be radical proposals for the biggest tax reform in generations; closing loopholes for the richest and introducing a tax on mansions to fund tax cuts of £700 for everyone else and importantly for those of us living here in the Western Isles no-one will pay income tax on the first £10,000 they earn, meaning low earners and pensioners will stop paying taxes altogether, while others will get hundreds of pounds back in their pockets.”

“There will be proposals for real change of our political system getting big money and corrupt donors out of politics altogether, reducing the number of MPs by 150, giving power over the police and NHS to local communities, changing the voting system to abolish safe seats and giving you the right to sack corrupt MPs. We need permanent change to make politics clean, fair and local.”

“We also propose shifting the economy away from the traditional over-reliance on the City of London and on financial service to growth enabled in every part of Britain in a way that promotes green technology and creates lasting jobs.

We will also create a new National Infrastructure Bank to bring in private money to build the transport links, energy grid and public buildings we need for a sustainable, low carbon economy in every part of Britain including here in the Western Isles.”

“From the other Party’s we have heard only vague promises and soundbites. Only the Liberal Democrats show true commitment to real change in politics and to politics serving the ordinary voters.”

“Politics needs to change. We need to be honest with electors and to treat people as grown ups instead of trying to buy off groups one by one with unacheivable promises.

Nick Clegg has started the process this week unlike the other Party leaders.”
