New competition to tee up local heroes

A brand new initiative, lead by VisitScotland, will see the national tourism body team up with some of Scotland’s best known golf resorts in the search for local heroes from around the UK.
The Golf for Local Heroes campaign will recognise heroes across the UK who have made significant efforts to improve and enrich the lives of others in 2009.
From emergency services and the armed forces to charitable workers or even the local lollipop man all of them deserve recognition for the inspiring work that they do to help others.
To nominate log onto VisitScotland’s winter website, www.visitscotland.com/localhero and enter details of your chosen hero.
VisitScotland will award a selection of heroes at the end of January with a luxury golf break at four of Scotland’s leading resorts including The Fairmont Hotel, St Andrews, The Dukes Course courtesy of the Old Course Hotel, Carnoustie Golf Links and Gleneagles.
Malcolm Roughead, VisitScotland’s director of visitor engagement, said: “This is a great way of giving something back to the community and highlighting the tremendous work that is done by service men and women, the emergency services and anyone else who has gone above and beyond the call of duty.
“Through our work with some of the emergency services golf associations, we know that many of them enjoy golf in their leisure time and we would like to thank some of them by presenting them with one of the best golfing experiences in the world.
“We’re delighted to be able to offer these fantastic prizes in association with four of Scotland’s best courses and look forward to reading the entries we receive.”
Winter is the ideal time to enjoy a great golfing experience in the Home of Golf, as many courses are open for business, there is less competition for tee times and there are a whole host of great offers at courses across the country.
