Western Isles MSP, Alasdair Allan, has accepted an invitation to chair “Commonhealth”, a body set up in the Western Isles to ensure the community gets the most out of the lead-up to the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow 2014.

Alasdair Allan commented:

“Commonhealth aims to create a popular movement that will result in increased participation in physical activity by people of all ages and backgrounds.

The Scottish Government are one of many agencies working with communities around Scotland through its “Active Nation” programme to achieve a healthier Scotland.

“Today’s meeting brought together groups as varied as the Comhairle, the NHS, and various sports organisations in the islands who have all now begun drawing up plans for the coming years. I am delighted to be involved with this endeavour, which I believe is one example of the benefits which the Glasgow Commonwealth Games will bring to Scotland as a whole.”
