Daliburgh School Investment

Cllr Morag Munro, Comhairle nan Eilean Siar’s Chair of Education and Children’s Services has welcomed an announcement from the Scottish Government that they will provide 50% of the funding for a new school or refurbishment at Daliburgh School in South Uist.

This is part of a package of funding awarded by the Scottish Government to improve Primary Schools throughout Scotland.

Mrs Munro said: “I very much welcome this announcement of funding.

The Comhairle will shortly be discussing how to make best use of the money from the Scottish Government to improve facilities at Daliburgh Primary Department.

This funding is for 50% of costs, so the challenge for us will be to find the other 50% required which could be as much as £3m.

We will also be exploring whether the Western Isles Schools Project provides an opportunity to reduce the timescale for the design and procurement process in view of the fact that we are already working with the Scottish Futures Trust who have been appointed to drive forward the Schools Investment Programme”.

Under the Western Isles Schools Project, the Comhairle is building five new schools, three of which will be primaries.
